No Refs, No Games!

CT has lost nearly 25% of its referees since 2013.
Without refs, players can't play games.
With everyone's help,
we can change this alarming trend!
CT Hockey families may not know that in 2013, CT had 642 registered officials. Last year, that number dropped to 495. We need your help to support our referees and encourage others to get involved in officiating the game that we all love.

We recently met up with three hockey lovers who have made a professional career of officiating and are living their hockey dreams in the NAHL and USHL! Find out how they got started and their best — and worst — experiences.

If you're interested in becoming a referee, register with USA Hockey and attend an upcoming CT training seminar. Contact CT Hockey's Referee-in-Chief Barry Zalcman with questions at

And next time you're at a game, remember that the way people outside the glass treat officials can affect whether they decide to quit — and whether potential referees decide to sign on — and that affects whether players can keep on playing the game!

See you at the rink!
