The Battle Axes Women's Hockey Team to Host Alisha Wei88man Memorial Tournament

On March 21-23, 2014, The Battle Axes women's hockey team out of Danbury will host their second annual Alisha Wei88man Memorial Tournament at the Danbury Ice Arena twin rinks in Danbury, CT. (The FHL Danbury Whalers also hae games scheduled that weekend.)

Formed in 2010, the Danbury Battle Axes are a Women's C/D Level Ice Hockey team ranging in skill. Some have children who play youth hockey with groups like CHC; others wanted to try a new sport later in life, and a few have played since they were teenagers. They play other women's teams in NY, NJ and CT and are always looking for new opponents and recruits no matter your skill level. Their goal is to grow the team and women's hockey in CT.

On January 24, 2012, teammate Alisha Weissman died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Although Alisha was just 39 years old, she had beaten breast cancer, was a well-respected veterinarian and a beloved teammate. Alisha loved hockey and didn't care where or when she played. She was such an inspirational and remarkable young woman that the Battle Axes retired her number (#88) and started the Alisha Wei88man Memorial Tournament in her honor.

Through the inaugural tournament in 2013, thanks to countless favors and tireless volunteers, the Battle Axes were able to donate $3000 to Tufts University's Travis Fund for Needy Animals (Alisha'a alma mater) and $675 to the Danbury Animal Welfare Society in Alisha's memory.

There are many ways to help with this year's tournament!
  • Attend! Purchase a t-shirt to wear with pride.
  • Donate merchandise or a service for the raffle or silent auction
  • Advertise in the tournament brochure — ads start at $25
